Overview
A father and son who work as rag-and-bone men live together in Shepherd's Bush, London. While Albert is content with their way of life, Harold aspires to better himself and build a life of his own, but his attempts are repeatedly thwarted by his father, leading to frequent clashes between the two.

Season 8
A fashion shoot at the Steptoes' yard, Harold's troubled love life and Albert's unexpected interests provide a series of unusual disruptions to their routine. Their final run also finds them dealing with family secrets, physical setbacks and Albert's attempts to contact the dead.
